About the Performance
The Missoula Children’s Theatre, the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year, including two stops in Loveland, Colorado. In both instances, the professional tour team will arrive in Loveland with everything needed to present a full-scale theatrical production and will assemble a cast of talented Loveland students to serve as the actors for the given performance.
Local Northern Colorado students will perform an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz…but with a twist…or should we say twister?! Follow Tinhorn, Lionel, Scared Crow, Dotty and, of course, her little dog Mooch through a saga of Western adventure and personal discovery. Watch as they encounter a gang of bad, barkin’, back-bitin’ hounds who work for the meanest old witch in the West, Hawknose Halley. Follow along as Ma and Pa Munch and the rest of the Munch Kin point out the way to Dr. Ozzy, the Wizard of Frontier Medicine. Which way is that? Why Westward, o’ course!
A group audition will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre production of The Wiz of the West on Monday, August 3 in the Devereaux Room at the Rialto Theater Center from 10 am to noon. Those auditioning should arrive at 9:45 am and plan to stay for the full two hours. Casting will take place during the audition process, and the selected cast members will participate in twice-a-day rehearsals at the Rialto Theater Center. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.
Approximately 50-60 roles are available for local (Northern Colorado) students. All students entering grades 1-12 are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Most students rehearse approximately 4 ½ hours each day, Monday through Friday. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, August 8 at 3 pm and 5:30 pm.
Rehearsal schedules will be distributed at the audition. Student Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage and technical responsibilities. The Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup.
Tuition for cast members is $50.00 for the week
